Community Overview

willow_pond

Taberna was developed by Weyerhaeuser starting in 1995. Taberna, meaning “place of hospitality” was actually the original name of Bern Switzerland, New Bern’s sister city namesake. Taberna is about 5 miles East of downtown New Bern and about 40 min. away from the beaches. The community, approximately 800 homes, encompasses 1,100-acres, with a park, a nature trail, a canoe livery, and a fishing lake for the residents. Most of the streets have Swiss names, and you will notice New Bern’s affinity for the city’s mascot, the bear!

Resident Comments

“I enjoy living in Taberna for many reasons. The peace and quiet are key. Streetlights, sidewalks, and overall neighborhood orientation are important. And so far, my neighbors, and other folks I meet in Taberna are friendly, courteous, and are quite helpful. It is a great place to be retired.” – Phil

“I love our Taberna Tab Mail. Makes me feel like I know all of our neighbors and enjoy hearing what is on their mind. Enjoy riding through the neighborhood and looking at all the lovely landscaping and enjoying the friendships I have formed through the Taberna Garden Club.” – Norma

“It is convenient to New Bern, Havelock and Morehead City and easy access to the Airport, grocery shopping, banks, schools and Cherry Point. When you get on Hwy 70 you have a choice in which direction you want to go and there is usually not much traffic either way (other than weekend beach traffic). It is a manicured neighborhood with great pride held by its homeowners to keep their properties maintained. Taberna has a great mix of all types of homeowners from Military to Retirees to young business professionals and families. Great walking areas and wide streets for biking and we have a park and great walking trails for the naturalist or easy access to the canoe dock for boating. If you play golf or just like to eat at the Country Club restaurant or have your children play at the pool in the summer or if tennis is your exercise you have the ability to join the private Country Club. It is just a great all around place to live!” – Lana

Notice to Right of Voluntary Mediation

Pursuant to Section 7A-38.3F of the North Carolina General Statutes, all members are hereby informed that you have a right to initiate mediation pursuant to the terms of the statute to try to resolve a dispute with the Association. Both the homeowner and the Association must agree to mediate the dispute, and each side is responsible for splitting the cost of the mediation, including payment of a professional mediator. The mediation process is an opportunity to reach an agreement to resolve a dispute – neither side gives up their right to go to court to have a judge resolve the dispute if the parties are not able to reach an agreement through mediation. The specific process to initiate voluntary mediation is outlined in Section 7A-38.3F of the North Carolina General Statutes.
